Honoring Kate’s Legacy
We established the Kathryn Claire Wood Foundation in memory of our daughter Kate, who passed away suddenly due to complications from lymphoma.
Kate was in the second semester of her sophomore year at Arizona State University, studying nursing, when she became seriously ill. Misdiagnosed at first, she pushed through her final exams with strength and determination. After returning home, an x-ray revealed a mass surrounding her heart that was impeding her ability to breathe. She tragically did not survive what was expected to be a routine procedure to assess the extent of her lymphoma diagnosis.
A Life of Meaning
Kate was living the life she chose—one filled with purpose and compassion. While on a mission trip to El Salvador, she witnessed firsthand the impact of poverty and the deep need for accessible healthcare. That experience solidified her dream of becoming a nurse, inspiring her to study in the warmth and sunshine of Arizona.
She worked hard and made the dean’s list every semester. Kate’s infectious smile, quick wit, and strong work ethic endeared her to classmates, professors, and supervisors alike. She had a gift for connection and formed friendships wherever she went.
She is infinitely loved and profoundly missed.
Our Purpose
Through the Kathryn Claire Wood Foundation, we honor Kate’s legacy by supporting organizations in the areas of education and health care—two causes she cared deeply about. We donate to programs where she benefitted and to organizations we believe she would have championed.
This foundation is our way of continuing Kate’s mission: helping others, spreading kindness, and improving lives.
